KSF depositors could face eight-year wait

by isleofman.com 28th December 2009

According to reports, some British depositors in Kaupthing Singer & Friedlander Isle of Man may have to wait until 2017 to get back more of the cash they lost in the bank's collapse.

Around 3,000 depositors, who had more than ?50,000 in the bank, and 1,200 bondholders have been told by liquidators they could face a delay of up to eight years in the recovery of their money.

But they have now been told they will be able to claim back up to 80 per cent of their funds, based on current projections, which is more than previously thought.

Since the Icelandic bank collapsed 14 months ago, depositors with the Isle of Man branch have received a maximum ?50,000 under the Manx government's depositors compensation scheme.
