Major fire averted

by isleofman.com 28th December 2009

A Castletown resident is being praised for his actions in averting a potentially major fire.

The man called emergency services after seeing smoke coming from a house near his in Malew Street in the early hours of yesterday (Sunday) morning.

Although the property was empty, an oven had been left on and the burnt cooking fumes of a pizza activated a smoke alarm.

Fire officers were at the scene for around 20 minutes shortly after 2am with the fire confined to the oven and the kitchen slightly smoke logged.
