Council criticised for lack of investment

Treasury Minister Allan Bell is backing the proposed refurbishment of the Bowl, and at the same time is criticising Douglas Borough Council for a lack of investment in its properties over the years.

He says the ?3.4 million scheme should go ahead in order to give the Island a prime location to stage the opening ceremony for the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games.

Last night, councillors were given a detailed presentation on the scheme, but afterwards said they hadn't changed their minds.

Mr Bell says every effort should be made to make a refurbished Bowl available for what will be a major international event:
