Public building provides shelter

Emergency plans swung into action on Saturday night to help revellers stranded in Douglas by the snow.

The Sea Terminal was used to accomodate around 70 party-goers who found themselves stuck in the capital, after weather conditions changed for the worse.

Police asked for the building to be opened in accordance with a prepared plan to deal with such a situation.

All three emergency services, together with the St John Ambulance, catering staff and civil defence volunteers, were there to lend a hand.

Civil Defence planning officer Martin Blackburn says the Sea Terminal was perfect for the job:
