Regulations to be updated

by isleofman.com 21st December 2009

A new era of regulation for the Isle of Man's communications industry is on the way.

In both telecoms and broadcasting, the existing legislation pre-dates digital technology, mobile phones and the internet!

Director of the Communications Commission Dr Carmel McLaughlin has carried out a lengthy review of the system of regulation, and has concluded it's outdated and inflexible.

Written responses are invited as part of an eight week consultation which has just begun.

Dr McLaughlin says future regulation should allow operators to invest in and upgrade the Island's communications systems.

And she's hoping for a wide range of responses (play audio file):

Written responses should be made to the Communications Commission at Salisbury House, in Victoria Street, Douglas by February 11.
