The Met Office in Ronaldsway has issued a code red weather warning as freezing temperatures bring blizzards to the Isle of Man.

The warning says rain will freeze as thermometers plunge below zero, and up to two inches of snow could fall as well as sleet and hail.

By tomorrow morning, some areas of the Island could be under up to as much as four inches of snow with drifts borne on winds.

Police say you should carefully consider whether car journeys are necessary and only set out if you absolutely have to.

The Met Office warning points out rain or sleet which has fallen during the afternoon and evening is expected to freeze overnight giving a high risk of widespread ice.

This will make driving conditions particularly hazardous, as will frequent heavy snow and hail showers which look set to continue throughout the morning.

In the warning, the most serious issued by Ronaldsway, it says all parts of the Island are likely to be affected.

It points out there’s a significant risk of conditions which are likely to cause disruption.
