The Communications Commission is asking for your views on how to regulate the Island’s communications industries.
The laws governing communications networks and broadcasters dates back to 1984 – a time before the internet and mobile phones, when the Island had only phone company and one radio station.
The Commission says it’s now going to hold a review to make sure the Island has the best regulatory framework possible.
And in order to do so, it wants to hear your view.
The Communications Commission says it’s devoted to two central principles: developing a communications infrastructure to maximise the Island’s social and economic potential, and emphasising cooperation as the first approach to tackling disputes.
Dr Carmel McLaughlin, Director of the Commission says the Island has two mobile operators, five Internet Service Providers and three radio stations – which means updated regulation is needed.
She says any changes will have to take into account operators, consumers and businesses alike.
You can write to the Communications Commission at Salisbury House in Victoria Street, Douglas with your views before Thursday 11 February next year.
