Be a Tram Driver for a Day!

by isleofman.com 14th December 2009

The offer of the 'Ultimate Driving Experience’ recently announced by the Department of Tourism and Leisure is not all it seems.

Far from being a high-octance track day or lap of the TT course, this new event will give members of the public a chance to drive one of the Island’s historic Electric Trams.

Each experience will be run over a full day and will include safety briefings, a history of the trams, theory information and, ultimately, the chance to drive one of the trams between Laxey and Ramsey.

Minister for Tourism and Leisure Martyn Quayle MHK comments, "These ultimate driving experience trips are a perfect opportunity for any railway enthusiasts to experience and appreciate firsthand the skill that goes into operating our Electric Trams.

"It is fantastic to see how accessible the Heritage Railways are becoming and I’m sure these experiences would make fantastic Christmas presents."

'The Ultimate Driving Experience’ has been scheduled to take place in April and May when the low season timetable is operating.

As there are limited dates available bookings will be made on a first-come, first-served basis.  The total cost is ?300, (or ?350 with an accompanying guest).  Please direct all bookings to Marieanne Bridges: email Marieanne.bridges(at)gov.im or call (01624) 697419.
