Steam Packet vessel broken down on way to England

by isleofman.com 15th December 2009

The Ben-my-Chree's arrival in Heysham has been pushed back until at least half past four this afternoon, passengers waiting at the port have been told.

The Steam Packet boat left Douglas just after half past eight this morning and was due to arrive in England at around 12.15 this lunchtime.

A statement on the Steam Packet's website from earlier this afternoon says, "The Ben-my-Chree has experienced a technical fault in a fuel transfer pump.

"Due to tidal conditions at Heysham, and in the interests of passenger safety, the master has taken the decision to have the engine repaired prior to entering the harbour.

"The vessel is currently at safe anchor off Heysham port with a repair under way"
