4x4 club plays down Ayres run controversy

Organisers of a motorsport event which sparked a small-scale protest at the Ayres this weekend say they're surprised it received so much publicity.

The Isle of Man Four Wheel Drive Club says its run along the beach past the Area of Special Scientific Interest has been happening for 20 years.

But this year’s outing looked set to be overshadowed after a row in the House of Keys, and protests on the beach during the event, over whether it should be allowed.

Chairman of the club Alan Morgan-Moodie says members followed stringent rules, and their impact was minimal:
