Children in the nursery class of an Island primary school are returing to their classroom this morning (Tuesday) after a fire left their kitchen area badly smoke-damaged.
Fire crews were called to Victoria Road school in Castletown to put out the fire in the kitchen area of a mobile classroom yesterday morning (Monday).
A plastic container left on a hob unit which had been turned on, began to smoulder and ignited other equipment nearby.
None of the children were harmed but the youngsters spent the rest of the day in the main school, while the kitchen was cleaned.
Education minister Anne Craine says it was a potentially serious incident, which was dealt-with in a text-book style.
