Final sitting of Tynwald in 2009

by isleofman.com 15th December 2009

This month’s Tynwald sitting gets underway this morning (Tuesday) with a host of issues for politicians to debate.

After papers have been laid before the court, members will tackle questions – with 16 for oral answer and 25 for written answer.

Topics will include possible budget cuts, rights of way at Langness and the calling off of the Bowl refurbishment.

Meanwhile, on the order paper itself are a wide variety of motions covering everything from climate change to road safety schemes.

Tourism and Leisure Minister Martyn Quayle will ask for Tynwald’s permission to spend the ?1.7 million earmarked for the Bowl on other facilities at Ballafletcher for the Commonwealth Youth Games.

Meanwhile, North Douglas MHK Bill Henderson carries on his campaign to ask the government to cut its carbon emissions by ten per cent next year.

And Transport Minister David Anderson will present four petitions to the court for compulsory purchase orders so his department can carry out improvements to Richmond Hill and Cronk y Berry.

You can hear full coverage of December’s Tynwald sitting from 10.30 this morning on Manx Radio’s AM 1368 frequency.
