'Spending a penny' hit by inflation!

Visitors to the Market Hall in Douglas will soon be able to make use of new, state of the art public conveniences, which have been installed at a cost of ?80,000.

Douglas Borough Council says they will set 'new standards for the Island', but such luxury will come at a price.

Anybody wishing to 'spend a penny' will have to make sure they go along with loose change, as each visit will cost 20 pence!

Member of the Public Health and Housing Committee David Ashford says it's necessary to try and recoup some of the cost, and he admits that charging for the service is a new departure in recent times:
