The judges of a prestigious radio award have praised Manx Radio for offering an impressive breadth of programming.
The Island's national broadcaster was named North West Station of the Year by the Radio Academy at a presentation in Manchester last night.
Manx Radio was in the section for under 300,000 listeners, and the citation said it reflected its community well and treated its audience with respect.
Director of programmes and content Marc Tyley (play audio file):
The citation in full: "The breadth of Manx Radio's programming is impressive and the station sounds warm, but at the same time professional.
"They reflected their community and looked for ways to interact with different generations. A station like Manx Radio, where the geographical boundaries are very clearly defined, could be quite lazy and make most of their programmes predictable 'easy listening'. [But] the judges get the feeling that this is a vibrant station, which looks for new ways to present old ideas and it treats its audience with respect."
Following last night's success Manx Radio will go on to compete for the title Sony Radio Station of the Year in 2010.
