Tourism Minister Martyn Quayle says there is little he can do to influence the Steam Packet Company over its new Manx Grand Prix fare policy.
In the past the company has allowed visitors to pay a deposit on their tickets and the outstanding sum at a later date.
However, it recently attracted criticism from fans when it started asking for the full amount up front.
Mr Quayle says that decision is one for the company, although he will talk to management about it.
He says his department isn't the one which has direct talks with the Steam Packet over its ticketing policies.
