Police safety advice for holiday period

Police are urging local residents to make sure they are safe over the festive period to stop their Christmas being ruined by thieves.

Officers have launched their annual Christmas crime safety initiative, with advice to make sure nobody need suffer theft or burglary.

Force Crime Prevention Officer Mike Radcliffe says simple steps like making sure doors and windows are locked at home and keeping shopping out of sight in parked cars can deter thieves.

He also says people on nights out should listen to the advice of an old colleague:
