Green issues to dominate Keys

by isleofman.com 8th December 2009

The House of Keys is sitting today, with green issues firmly on the minds of MHKs.

There are 13 questions for oral answer, and another seven for written reply.

Of those, three deal with the problems of greenhouse gas emissions and what the government is doing to tackle them.

Rushen MHK Juan Watterson and Douglas North MHK Bill Henderson will ask Chief Minister Tony Brown for action in reducing the Island's CO2 emissions.

There are also questions about the price of milk on the Island, from Onchan MHK Peter Karran, and one about people who use mobile phones while driving from Mr Watterson.

The Marriage and Civil Registration amendment bill, being steered through the Keys by Phil Braidwood, MHK, is down for second reading, while Transport Minister David Anderson hopes to steer a Harbours Bill through its third.

There's also a report from the House of Keys standing orders committee, and North Douglas MHK John Houghton will ask for leave to introduce a private member's bill which would give new powers to debt collectors.

The Legislative Council also sits this morning at 10.30am, when it will discuss four bills from the Keys.

You can hear live coverage of question time from the House of Keys, on Manx Radio’s AM 1368 frequency, starting at 10am.
