Heroin death misadventure verdict

by isleofman.com 7th December 2009

Coroner Michael Moyle has recorded a misadventure verdict at an inquest on a man who died as a result of the illicit use of heroin.

Thirty-year-old Richard Smids, who was born in Holland, was found dead at his home in Castletown in October.

Evidence showed police were alerted after he failed to turn up for his work as a healthcare assistant.

At his home officers were confronted by a very agitated dog and found Mr Smids' body on a sofa.

He was surrounded by open cans of beer and what appeared to be drugs taking paraphernalia.

Mr Smids' body was identified by his mother.
