Name Chosen for Baby Tapir

by isleofman.com 7th December 2009

The new baby tapir at the Curraghs Wildlife Park has been called ‘Basil’ following a competition to find him a name.

The baby Lowland Tapir was born on 22nd October and Isle of Man residents were invited to suggest a name.

Over 100 suggestions were received giving the Park Managers a difficult job to select the winner.

Tina Jauncey, Duty Manager at Curraghs explained how the decision was made.

She said, "There were many, many suggestions but in the end it came down to the choice of the keepers who thought he looked like a Basil.  We were very happy that the winner is one of our regular visitors, Morgan Naylor."

Morgan will receive a 2010/11 season ticket for the Wildlife Park.
