Inquest hears of depression fears

by isleofman.com 7th December 2009

A suicide verdict has been recorded at an inquest into the death of a Douglas man who was found hanged in his flat.

The body of 52-year-old David Patrick Watterson, a bricklayer and lecturer, was discovered at Castlemere apartments on October 23.

Mr Watterson's sister Julie Cassidy told coroner Michael Moyle she was very close to her brother and had feared he was suffering from a depressive disorder.

Because of her concerns she contacted his doctor, which led to him being prescribed sleeping pills.

His body was discovered by Mrs Cassidy and Simon Cowin, a taxi driver with whom Mr Watterson occasionally shared duties.

Mr Cowin said he had known Mr Watterson for over 40 years, and couldn't imagine him causing himself any harm.
