Partington takes walk for 13th time

by isleofman.com 7th December 2009

Steve Partington won the Empire Garage Peel to Douglas walk for the 13th time on Sunday.

He edged out Michael George in a close battle with Jock Waddington finishing third and Sean Hands fourth.

Judith Quane won the women’s title ahead of Bernie Ball and Terri Salmon.

Jared Smith was the quickest male novice and Jane Foster the female novice winner.

Athletics officials are concerned future events could be cancelled on safety grounds due to a lack of marshals.

The Peel to Douglas walk only went ahead at the 11th hour and officials say the level of risk to which clubs, race organisers and competitors are exposed is becoming increasingly unacceptable.
