Bowl debate had to be in private - Christian

Criticism of Douglas Borough Council for sitting in private to discuss the multi-million pound refurbishment scheme for the Bowl is being refuted by its leader.

South Douglas MHK David Cretney is unhappy with the local authority for pulling out of the joint venture with government, and is claiming the decision was taken because of the need to spend a considerable sum on repairing defects at Shaw's Brow car park.

But David Christian is angrily rejecting the allegation, saying the Bowl debate had to be behind closed doors because it included sensitive financial material concerning the council's forthcoming budget.

He says any costs relating to the car park will be included in the list for the 2010/2011 budget but, at this stage, he can give no indication how much money might be involved:
