Laxey seal Railway Cup berth

by isleofman.com 5th December 2009

Laxey confirmed their Railway Cup qualification with a 4-2 over Gymns on Saturday.

Goals from Lee Cowley (two), Fraser Vaughan and an own goal sealed the points and cemented the Miners’ place in next weekend’s semi-finals, where they’ll host Peel.

It will also maintain their title hopes.

Mark Connor and Nick Foden hit the goals for Gymns in the match, which was played at Laxey.

St Mary's, who will travel to Rushen in the other semi-final, kept alive their Sure Mobile Premier League title aspirations with a 4-1 success over Corinthians.

After a goalless first half, the Saints turned up the heat with goals from Steven Glover, Liam Cowin and Martin Priestnal (two).

David Bignall scored the consolation from Corinthians in a match played at Noble’s Park due to the Bowl being unplayable.

Just two matches survived the weather in CFS Division Two.

A Chris McKenna goal helped Colby overcome the spirited challenge of the Police at Groves Road.

Ramsey Youth Centre and Foxdale shared six goals up north in an exciting contest.

After two goals each in the first half, both sides netted again in the second period but still couldn’t be separated.

Martin Murphy, Steven Oates and Johnny Shields were on target for Youth Centre.

Andy Glover (two) and Steven Betteridge were the Foxdale scorers.
