Crafts and Carols with Manx National Heritage

by isleofman.com 4th December 2009

Manx National Heritage is ringing in the festive season with some great community events for all the family.

On Saturday 12th December, the Manx Museum is running a day of fun, creative workshops for children aged 6-12 years.

There will be games, singing and crafts, and all children will leave with a present they've made themselves to give to a friend or family member.

Each child will also receive a special Christmas goodie bag to take home.

The morning session runs from 10am-12 noon and the afternoon session from 1 -3pm.

There is a limit of 20 children in each session so booking is essential.  The sessions cost £5 per child.  Simply phone the Manx Museum on 648000 to book a place.

Carols in the Sunset City

On 11th December, the House of Manannan will be staging a Community Carol Concert which really will awaken the festive spirit.

There will be a set performance from children from Peel Clothworkers School followed by a chance for visitors to join in the carol singing along with members of Age Concern’s Day Centre in Peel, Ny Kaire Thieyn.

This event will also mark the culmination of the Age Concern Support our Stocking campaign which has been running at the House of Manannan since its launch in November.

Visitors to the House of Manannan have been donating gifts to be distributed by Age Concern to the residents and members of Ny Kaire Thieyn in Peel.

Last year’s campaign was so successful, thanks to the generosity and thoughtfulness of the visitors to the House of Manannan, that Manx National Heritage wanted to support Age Concern again this Christmas.

Gillian Harvey, Age Concern’s Business Development Officer, said, "What is lovely about the Support our Stocking Appeal at the House of Manannan is that the collection brings lots of gifts like soaps and chocolates rather than the more usual food items."

There is still time for you to make a donation and give a gift to that could really make someone’s Christmas special.

Following the stocking theme, Manx National Heritage has also been running a competition to Design and Make a Christmas Stocking.  All the entries

will be displayed in a special exhibition in the Foyer of the House of Manannan.

The judging will take place at the end of the Carol Concert at 3pm and there are Fantastic Christmas Heritage hampers to be won.
