Lecture on Ellan Vannin

by isleofman.com 4th December 2009

There's a chance to hear a detailed account of the loss of the Ellan Vannin this evening (Friday)

Administrator of the Manx Heritage Foundation Charles Guard will deliver an illustrative talk in the lecture theatre at the Manx Museum.

Mr Guard, one of the organisers of yesterday's 100th anniversary commemoration of the tragedy in Liverpool, will explore the circumstances surrounding the sinking of the vessel, and look at some of the many theories as to why it happened.

He says the Ellan Vannin sank because of an unusual set of circumstances, of which getting caught up in the most violent hurricane of the century was the most significant:

Doors at the Manx Museum open at 7pm, for a 7.30pm start.
