Further Traffic Disruption in St Johns

by isleofman.com 4th December 2009

Road works on Foxdale Road, St John’s, will be extended past their original schedule following the discovery of cables that did not show up in initial surveys.

A scheme to reconstruct the carriageway and footway began on October 26th and was scheduled to take six weeks to complete.

Highway Services Manager Nigel Foster explains, "The work started on time and has been going well.

"However, the work has uncovered some utility services which were not deep enough to allow road construction to be carried out safely.  Surveys and excavations to locate the services were carried out prior to work commencing, but they did not reveal these particular services.

"The services are being relaid, but this unforeseen extra work means we have to extend the road closure on Foxdale Road for approximately two weeks.

"The road will be open over the Christmas period, but unfortunately the delays are such that we will have to return again in the New Year to complete the works.  This may be for a period of up to four weeks."

Foxdale Road is closed to through traffic from Patrick Road to The Hope for the duration of the works.  Access is being maintained to all properties including the football club.

Patrick Road remains open from Station Road, although there are temporary traffic signals in place across the Foxdale Road junction.  Motorists are asked to please drive carefully around St John’s and to follow the signed diversion routes.
