Local authority election result

Peel has a new commissioner.

The successful candidate in today's election was business analyst Raymond Harmer, who polled 289 votes.

He beat local business man Ian Davison by a margin of 23 votes, with Marlyn Bowie in third place, on 241.

The remaining candidate, Suzette Marshall, got 189 votes.

The turnout was 28 per cent, which means just under 1,000 people voted.

Returning officer Rodger Gimbert, the current chairman of the Peel board, read out the result at about 9pm:
