Ellan Vannin ceremony in Ramsey

Ramsey is remembering all those who lost their lives in the Ellan Vannin disaster a century ago today.

The Steam Packet ferry sailed from the town and was overwhelmed by high seas in the teeth of a gale off the coast of Liverpool.

The tragedy cost the lives of all 35 crew and passengers.

Ramsey commissioners are hosting a service of remembrance (4pm) for all those who died, and it's being held at the Ellan Vannin's point of departure, near the premises of Mezeron on the quayside.

Ramsey MHK and chairman of the Manx Heritage Foundation Anne Craine says it will be a solemn ceremony:
