Warning to motorists as drink driver is jailed

by isleofman.com 2nd December 2009

Being three times over the drink driving limit has cost a Douglas man his liberty and his driving licence.

Twenty-seven-year-old Robert James Morris, of Castle Mona Avenue, was jailed for five weeks and banned from driving for three years.

He admitted the offence after being arrested when police received reports of erratic driving as he travelled to Douglas from Ramsey.

His alcohol reading was three times over the legal limit and his advocate said Morris had made no attempt to minimise the seriousness of the offence.

He urged for a suspended sentence to be imposed and said his level of remorse was genuine and custody would have a serious effect.

Passing sentence, High Bailiff Michael Moyle said the consequences of drink driving were not being heeded, despite repeated warnings from the courts.
