A union leader in the Isle of Man believes proposed changes to the work permit system could dent the prospects of Manx workers, at a time of increased concern over job security.
The number of days people from off-Island can work here without a permit will rise from three in a lifetime, to ten days a year, if Tynwald approves the changes.
It would allow firms to bring key individuals to the Island without applying for a work permit.
President of the Trades Council Angela Moffatt fears many companies will bring consultants over from the United Kingdom instead of retaining staff members locally.
She says consultation on the changes was carried out before the loss of VAT revenue, which has only made job prospects in the Island worse:
