Launch of anti-drink drive campaign

by isleofman.com 30th November 2009

'Booze, choose or lose' is the provocative slogan of this year's Christmas anti drink-drive campaign.

It was launched at the Sea Terminal today, and is a joint project by the Isle of Man police and the Department of Transport.

The campaign features a series of cartoon images showing people enjoying themselves with a drink, then facing the question of how they will get home.

Marian Kenny reports (text, below, from attached audio):

The tag line focuses the minds of revellers on the consequences of drinking if they make the wrong choice.

The cartoons show people having fun with a few drinks during the festive season, while the 'choose' aspect features the buses and taxis they should take, both on their way home and the next day into work.

As to 'lose', the image shows a person in the back of a police van after choosing to drive.

The campaign reiterates the penalties for anyone caught over the limit, which include a fine of up to ?5,000, loss of licence or even a jail sentence.

The message also reminds people that even one or two drinks can impair their ability to drive and endanger lives, and will be backed up by a radio advertising campaign.
