Premier title race hots up

by isleofman.com 30th November 2009

The battle for the men’s Hockey Premier Division remains on a knife-edge.

Reigning champions Bacchas A inflicted a first defeat of the season on previous leaders Valkyrs A with a 4-2 success.

The result – secured by goals from Jamie Cox, Richard Le Page, Dave Kneale and Karl Moore – meant Bacchas moved to second and Valkyrs – who scored through Ollie Webster and Gareth Morris - slipped to third.

Vikings A are the new leaders after thrashing Castletown A 7-1.

A Conor Byrne hat-trick and two each from Gerry Quinn and Juan Corlett meant Paul Kelly’s reply for Town was irrelevant.

Bacchas B and Vikings B drew 1-1 with goals from Alex Bell and Ian Perry respectively, while the bottom of the table clash also ended all square.

Harlequins and Valkyrs B, who remain bottom, shared four goals with Alex Cave and Pete Godwin on target for ‘Quins and Jonah Hull and Vic Fearns netting for Valkyrs.

In the women’s Premier Division, Hannah Leece grabbed the second half goal as Castletown A defeated Bacchas A 1-0 to move level on points with their opponents.
