Primary school teachers who completed a Department of Education further training programme will receive certificates from Education Minister Anne Craine MHK and Director of Education John Cain.
Eighteen teachers have successfully completed Level 2 training in the Leadership and Management Programme, designed to develop curriculum leadership skills for middle managers (with more than four years’ teaching experience).
The programme, which was run during the last academic year, saw teachers undertake four days’ training, completing assignments and carrying out an assessed task.
A further eleven teachers have completed Level 3 training, which is aimed at teachers who have strategic leadership and management responsibilities in schools – perhaps as deputy heads or team leaders – and aspire to leadership roles.
The Level 3 programme runs over two years and involves eight days’ training as well as a range of school-based tasks and an assessed written assignment.
The Leadership and Management Programme is validated by Chester University and teachers who wish to pursue their research may use the points gained towards Masters Degree qualifications.
Simon Jones, a primary school headteacher, who runs the Leadership and Management Programme, said it was important to continue to develop teachers’ skills as they progressed in their careers.
"The Leadership and Management Programme has been running for six years, training and preparing teachers for leadership roles and ensuring continuity of standards within our schools.
"I am delighted that most participating teachers are pursuing the degree level option provided by Chester University and I wish them every success in their studies, most of which take place in their own time, developing themes covered by the course."
The Education Minister (pictured) congratulated the 29 teachers who have successfully completed the programme this year: "We can be very proud that we have staff who are so enthusiastic and committed that they are prepared to undertake these professional training courses.
"It is important that we offer these leadership and management courses on the Island and enable our teachers to be part of the succession planning for our schools in the future. They have all done really well and are to be congratulated."
