DoT rejects manifesto claims

by isleofman.com 27th November 2009

Next week's Peel by-election is hotting-up.

One of the candidates for the vacant commissioners' seat is being accused of serious errors in his manifesto, over plans for a sewage works in the town.

The Department of Transport has issued a four page rebuttal of claims made by local businessman Ian Davison.

Text from radio report below:

The plan for a sewage treatment plant in Peel was always going to be a hot election topic, even though the Peel option is now shelved after local commissioners rejected it earlier this month.

The Department of Transport is clearly rattled by Mr Davison's manifesto, which it says is littered with inaccuracies.

The candidate's claims about the location of the proposed Peel sewage works, as well as odour and outfall into the river, are disputed, along with the cost of IRIS to the Island.

Mr Davison stood by his manifesto when the criticisms were put to him on Manx Radio's Perspective programme last night.

The department also takes issue with phrases used in the manifesto of another candidate, Marlyn Bowie.

The other candidates standing are Suzette Marshall and Raymond Harmer.
