Local authority contributes to road safety

by isleofman.com 25th November 2009

Police in the east of the Isle of Man are to receive state of the art speed guns.

They have been given the Pro-laser 3 devices by Braddan Commissioners.

Sergeant Darrill Pearson of the Eastern Neighbourhood Policing Team says it will help their efforts to crack down on poor driving.

He says the Pro-laser 3 is widely recognised by enforcement organisations as one of the leading hand-held speed detection devices.

The equipment was originally purchased by the commissioners with the intention of volunteers using it to monitor traffic in the parish.

When that proved impractical it was decided to give it to police officers in order to ensure it was put to good use.

Chairman of the local authority Margaret Hodge says the commissioners are pleased to be able to bolster the constabulary's enforcement capability.
