A Union Mills man who beat another man with a pool cue has been given a suspended prison sentence by Deemster Doyle.
Fifty-one-year-old Jack McVeigh, of Close Y Lhergy, admitted a charge of affray.
It followed a fight in Sam Webb's pub in Douglas last November.
The prosecution said McVeigh was involved in a dispute with a man called Norman Alexander over the winnings of a pool game.
Evidence showed Mr Alexander went to sit on a stool near the bar and was hit over the head with a pool cue.
He suffered a badly damaged eye and a cut on his eyebrow which needed seven stitches.
The prosecution said CCTV footage showed McVeigh striking Mr Alexander several times with the cue.
McVeigh himself was hit with a bottle as he left the pub.
His advocate said it was an argument between friends and although McVeigh had several convictions for violence there had been nothing since 2002.
Deemster Doyle gave him a nine month sentence, suspended for two years.
