Liberal Vannin joins abrogation debate

by isleofman.com 20th November 2009

A Manx political party has added its voice to calls for the abrogation of the common purse agreement with the United Kingdom

Liberal Vannin says it is time to seriously consider revisiting a report on the subject from 1976, and updating it to take into account developments in the past 33 years.

The party is asking why information on the subject has not been released by the Isle of Man Government and questions whether it might be it's frightened it could reveal its own incompetence.

Only by doing this, the party says, would all the options be on the table for a sensible discussion to take place and a reasoned decision made.

The chief minister and treasury minister have repeatedly said the Isle of Man's interests are best served by keeping the agreement in place.
