The Department of Health and Social Security says an increase in the amount of National Insurance contributions paid by Isle of Man workers will help secure the future of the health service here.
The DHSS is facing a ?7 million overspend for the current financial year and, with the fall in government income following the redrawing of the VAT agreement with the UK, there have been fears finances could get worse.
A one per cent rise in contributions was seen as a way of easing concerns, and the proposal was approved by Tynwald on Wednesday.
