by isleofman.com 19th November 2009

Help is at hand for anybody who has ever thought of seeking election for a local authority, but doesn't know enough about the responsibilties.

Onchan commissioners are hosting an open evening to give prospective candidates for their forthcoming election some friendly advice.

The event is at the commissioners' offices from 6.30pm today (Wednesday), and people from other parts of the Island are welcome to attend.

Chairman of the Onchan board Brian Stowell says the advice could help ensure only dedicated individuals stand for office (play audio file):

Tomorrow (Thursday) is the last day for candidates to be registered for the vacant seat on the Onchan board, following the resignation of Steve Babb.
