Benefit system 'brought up to date'

Rules regarding qualification for some state benefits in the Isle of Man are set be tightened under new proposals.

The changes are likely to come into force next April and will see the residency qualification for Family Income Supplement raised from six months to five years.

Among other suggestions, single parents will be encouraged to find employment once their youngest child is attending secondary school.

Political member with responsibility for social security Bill Henderson says the review will bring the benefits system up to date (play audio file):
