MHK wants tougher alcohol controls

'A step in the right direction but one which doesn't go far enough'.

That's how Onchan MHK Peter Karran describes new controls on the sale of alcohol in the Isle of Man.

Every local off-licence has signed up to a new code of practice to ensure the product is sold responsibly.

It includes introducing a set area for the sale of alcohol, putting up signs and giving out leaflets detailing the potential health dangers.

Mr Karran has long campaigned for tighter controls on alcohol sales in the Island's supermarkets:
