Douglas houses struck by lightning

by isleofman.com 14th November 2009

Douglas fire service was called out to two properties which were struck by lightning this morning (Saturday).

One, a local authority house in School Road, Willaston, had its plug sockets blown off its walls by a direct strike.

Another house, in Berrywoods Avenue, Governor's Hill, also suffered a direct strike, which blew a hole in the roof.

Duty officer last night with Douglas fire service, Willie Cowley, says fortunately there were no injuries in either incident.

Fire crews were also called to two Douglas nursing homes and the old Noble's Hospital after automatic fire alarms were set off.

All five callouts were between 5.30am and 6am.
