Nurse training in good shape

The Isle of Man is well ahead of the game when it comes to an aspect of nurse training which has been in the news in the United Kingdom.

Plans to require newly qualified nurses to have a degree before they are allowed to care for patients are already in place on the Island.

The proposals come into effect in the UK in 2013 with the Royal College of Nursing saying the extra study is vital to cope with the demands of a more complex healthcare system.

However, while some say it will improve standards, many believe the ruling shouldn't apply to all aspects of the profession.

The Island's director of nursing Bev Critchlow doesn't think there's a problem here:
