Prison job centre a priority - MHK

The Isle of Man's prison at Jurby needs a properly integrated programme to help inmates before they are released at the end of their sentences.

That's the belief of North Douglas MHK Bill Henderson who asked a question on the issue in the House of Keys this week.

He says in the past no such plans were in place and prisoners were just 'thrown out' and 'left to get on with it', which gave them no chance of successful rehabilitation into society.

Mr Henderson has been following the progress of the new prison closely and believes there is now a genuine will to bring forward proper inter-departmental initiatives, such as the current plan to create a job centre facility within the prison.

However, he believes it needs to be made a priority:
