Deemster deals with 'karaoke rage' case

by isleofman.com 12th November 2009

A man who cut an electric cable to stop a karaoke night and ended up electrocuting an organiser has escaped a jail sentence.

Forty-one-year-old Lee Davy of Onchan faced a charge of causing damage and being reckless as to whether life was endangered when he appeared before Deemster Doyle.

The Court of General Gaol heard he had cut the cable during an event at the Grandstand TT beer tent on June 10.

Linda Watt, prosecuting, said the man who received the electric shock was taken to Noble's Hospital but suffered no lasting injury.

Davy's advocate Paul O'Neill said his client had been upset over the crash of Nick Crowe and Mark Cox during the daytime and couldn't understand how other people could be having a good time.

He cut the cable and when an organiser went to see why the power was off he picked up the lead and was electrocuted.

Deemster Doyle said the case was unusual and exceptional but interfering with electricity was extremely dangerous.

He imposed a 12 months jail term suspended for two years and ordered Davy to pay ?200 compensation.
