Council heading for crunch meeting

It looks as if Douglas Borough Council's continued involvement in the proposed ?3.7 million redevelopment of the Bowl will be decided at a special meeting.

At yesterday's regular monthly meeting, councillors were divided on whether it was still prudent to commit over ?1.5 million of rate payers' money to the scheme.

Council leader David Christian believes such a level of expenditure cannot be justified in the new economic climate and there are other, more pressing, demands on the local authority's finances.

However, he is continuing to make the point that the decision lies with all 18 members of the council:
