Steve Davis has been confirmed as the latest high-profile guest of the Isle of Man Sporting and Dining Club.
Davis will be the guest speaker at the Club's dinner on 11th February 2010, which is to be sponsored by HSBC.
Kevin Cartledge, Senior Manager at HSBC Isle of Man, hails the player as, "the ultimate professional and well known as one of Britain's top sportsmen.
"Described as a magician with the snooker cue, many will remember the highlights of Steve's career, of which there aremany.
"We look forward to welcoming Steve to the Isle of Man and to hearing from the 'Golden Nugget' and his incredible success story. It promises to be a great evening."
Event organiser John Wannenburgh added, "The Club is delighted to have secured Steve Davis as our next Guest Speaker, as it is he who single-handedly brought Snooker into the mainstream.
"Steve made television sporting history in compiling the first televised 147 maximum break; simultaneously held the World, UK and Masters titles; and is a six-times world champion: these accomplishments mark him out as a truly outstanding sportsman!
"Factor in a bone dry sense of humour, and we have the makings of an unforgettable evening".
Steve Davis has won more professional titles in the sport than any other player. He is one of only five players to win both the World Championship and the UK Championship in the same year and, together with Stephen Hendry and John Higgins, he is also the only one to hold the World, UK and Masters titles at the same time.
His most successful spell came during the 1980s, when he became the sport's first millionaire. Such was Davis's dominance in the 1980s, a popular saying ran that he was on television more often than the Prime Minister of the time! In 1988, he was named the BBC Sports Personality of the Year and made an MBE; in 2001, he was awarded an OBE.
Davis continues to play snooker at a high level and is now an established television analyst and occasional commentator for the BBC.
