Voters in the Isle of Man are to be given a chance to say what they think of the idea of the chief minister being publicly elected.
Yesterday in the House of Keys, South Douglas MHK Bill Malarkey was given permission to bring forward a private member's bill which could lead to the change.
Mr Malarkey believes voters need to know in advance who their chief minister is going to be, and what policies they are voting for.
And his priority now is to canvass opinion on his suggestion from members of the public, politicians and political groups:
