Island to fall silent at the eleventh hour

by isleofman.com 11th November 2009

The Isle of Man will fall silent for two minutes from 11am today, as its residents observe the annual November 11th Act of Remembrance.

The Manx Government is asking the public to respect the silence, which is an annual commemoration of the sacrifice of all those who have died serving their country.

The silence will be observed in a variety of public buildings, including many offices, and the government is asking motorists to pull over to the side of the road for the two minutes.

As on Remembrance Sunday, three days ago, local authorities have been asked to make their own arrangements for the marking the beginning and end of the period.

As usual, Manx Radio will stop broadcasting for the two minutes.
