'No decision yet on cuts' - DHSS

The DHSS says all its services are being reviewed in the wake of the United Kingdom's recent VAT announcement, and cuts in services may have to be made.

However, it is stressing that discussions are at an early stage and, contrary to rumours circulating on the Island, no decisions have been taken.

Health Minister Eddie Teare hopes to be able to make an annoucement in six to eight weeks.

But he says it's important that any possible cuts are carefully considered and the implications fully assessed:
